Praxis: Math practice test 1

Total 56 questions, I have five wrong answers.

Question 30

Question skill: Properties of shapes

In a plane, the lengths of line segments AB, BC, DCD are 3, 5, and 1, respectively. If m represents the greatest possible length of line segment AD, and p represents the least possible length of line segment AD, what is the value of m-p ?

I did get this part right. But I am worring about direction of AB, is AB the same as BA? Khan answer is the same as my answer.

Question 50

Question skill: Number concepts

To raise funds for a special project, a school sold 999 lottery tickets, numbered consecutively 1through 999, with a limit of one ticket per person. The school announced that anyone holding a ticket with a number divisible by 45 would win a hat and anyone holding a ticket with a number divisible by 54 would win a T-shirt. How many ticket holders won both a hat and a T-shirt?

I solve it using the same method.

Question 54

Question skill: Ratios and proportions

The ratio of the number of horses to the number of cows at a certain farm is 7 to 9. Which of the following could be the total number of horses and cows at the farm?

We can solve this question by first finding the minimum number of horses and cows that could be at the farm, then identify the choice that is a multiple of that number.

The ratio of the number of horses to the number of cows 7 to 9. This means, at a minimum, a total of 7+9=16 horses and cows could be at the farm. Some multiples of 16 are 16,32,48, 54, and 64.

Question 55

Question skill: Algebraic word problems

Of the 124 customers of a video store, 73 rented a comedy movie, 45 rented a science fiction movie, and 16 rented both a comedy and a science fiction movie. How many customers rented neither a comedy nor a science fiction movie?

My solution: ONLY Rent Comedy: 73 - 16 = 57

ONLY Rent Sc-fic: 45 - 16 = 29

Thus, 124 - (57 + 29 + 16) = 124 - 102 = 22
